Participation in the 3rd WCH–IBEC Precision Medicine Conference
The research group took part in the 3rd WCH–IBEC Precision Medicine Conference, held this year in Barcelona following the previous edition in Chengdu. The event gathered international experts to discuss recent advances and future directions in precision medicine. During the meeting, Dr. Alfons Navarro presented the group’s latest developments in patient-derived lung cancer organoid models, a technology that enables more accurate tumor characterization and supports the design of personalized therapeutic strategies. These advances contribute to the broader goal of improving treatment effectiveness through tailored clinical approaches. The conference also provided an excellent opportunity to further strengthen collaboration with colleagues from the West China Hospital, reinforcing the shared commitment to advancing translational research in precision medicine. The group looks forward to expanding these partnerships and exploring new avenues for joint innovation in the coming years.

Appointment as Full Professor at the University of Barcelona
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Alfons Navarro has formally assumed the position of Full Professor at the University of Barcelona, following the official academic ceremony held today. During the event, the Rector (left in the photo) emphasized that reaching the highest point is not the moment to stop pedaling, but rather the time to build a lasting academic school. In this spirit, Prof. Alfons Navarro looks forward to welcoming many more students and collaborators who will join and grow with our research group in the years to come. This milestone represents an important step for the group, reinforcing our commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and scientific leadership.

A New AEI Public–Private Collaboration Project Awarded to Advance Assisted Reproduction
A consortium led by the University of Barcelona has been granted a Public–Private Collaboration project by the Spanish AEI to develop “Advancing Assisted Reproduction: Unveiling the Future of IVF Through a New Non-Invasive Preimplantation Genomic Test to Improve Live Birth Rates by Analyzing cfDNA from Extracellular Vesicles in Embryo Culture Media.” The initiative brings together Yikon Genomics, represented by Dr. Bing Han, and Instituto Bernabeu, represented by Dr. Belén Lledó, combining cutting-edge genomics expertise with leading clinical practice in reproductive medicine, as well as the University of Barcelona, represented by Dr. Alfons Navarro, contributing its extensive experience in the characterization of extracellular vesicles and molecular biomarkers. This collaboration is expected to drive forward a new generation of genomic testing with the potential to significantly enhance embryo selection and increase live birth rates in IVF treatments.
